On Thursday Mexican mayors held a meeting in the United States for the first time, though it didn't draw any interest to any U.S. counterparts. They discussed illegal immigration and environment to economic growth. Only one of the United States mayor came,Jerry Sanders of San Diego , because his state was hosting. He later left after the welcoming remarks. The meeting was orignally scheduled in Ciudad Juarez, Meixco, but was then changed to the location of San Diego. The mayors disagreed that violence in Juarez, across from El Paso, Texas, influenced the change. They said that Sanders offered and they excepted. Four Mexican mayors came, when they were expecting there to be 12. The mayors from Mexico wanted the U.S. goverment to send more money to fight drug trafficking. They also asked to try to have an effort to fly the deported illegal immigrants to their hometowns, instead of returning them to cities on the border. Tijuana mayor Jorge Ramos said he wanted Juarez Mayor- elect Hector Murguia to work closely with the Mexican police of the 2,500 that were under his watch. Nuevo Laredo Mayor Ramon Garza said that the police officers should be more focused with small crimes, because everyone starts out small. Then they move to orgainzed crime.
Do you think it was okay for only Jerry Sanders of San Diego to be there to represent the United States?
